The summer break is in full swing, and it already feels like an age since the last race weekend. Luckily for motorsport fans, F1 podcasts keep up their content throughout the break, and are a brilliant way to pass the endless race-less weekends. Thanks to the rise of F1’s popularity, there’s a long list to choose from.
Here are some podcasts hosted by some incredibly impressive women that will make the summer break more bearable!
Going Purple with Lissie Mackintosh
Going Purple is a wonderful mix of technical information, key industry updates, and keeping up with Lissie’s professional life in motorsport. She manages to balance everything fans want to know; the ins and outs of an F1 car, the latest on drivers and the teams, and most importantly how she continues to make progress in her career. That’s the thing that makes this podcast unique, it guides fans that are looking for a career in F1 through Lissie’s journey so far.
The episodes also dedicate a lot of time solely for female fans, particularly in the episode: “F1 Girl Talk”, which was co-hosted by fellow Tik-Tok content-creator Hannah Atkinson. Female fans will definitely relate to Hannah and Lissie’s anecdotes, and the episode is both insightful and comforting.
Overall, Going Purple is the 3-in-1 of podcasts, covering all the bases for female F1 fans.
F1R the Girls
F1R the Girls is more race-weekend based, but still has a great mix of race recaps and technical episodes. It’s the perfect podcast to stay up to date on the business, technical, and social sides of F1.
The podcast’s New York-based creators; Francesca Sacchi, Sarah Hannigan, and Antigone Valen are seriously impressive, keeping an enormous amount of information compact and concise.
One of the highly recommended technical episodes is the: “Downforce, Dirty Air, and DRS: 2022 Regulations” episode which presents the new regs in a less daunting and more manageable way. Their recent episode is especially topical: “Silly Season in Full Force” so make sure to give it a listen!
TG1F: Two Girls 1 Formula
Run by Kate Lizotte and Nicole Sievers, TG1F, just like its name, is a hilariously chaotic recap of F1 pop culture and news. The hosts impeccably balance humor, wit, and current events, making for an easy and informative listen. The topics of the episodes are incredibly wide-ranged.
In their most recent episode they interview Emma Galasso, a campaigner for representation of female-led motorsport films. Other times they have spoken to F1 TV’s Jennie Gow, who has some seriously funny anecdotes.
TG1F gives voices to women in diverse motorsport careers and keeps you posted on everything in the F1 world, which together makes for an incredible podcast that makes this list.
Honourable Mention: F1 Nation
F1 Nation is of course the holy grail of podcasts, and while it’s not exclusively hosted by women, the one and only Natalie Pinkham means it gets an honourable mention.
The podcast is a must for any F1 fan because you get to hear from experts who are on the grid every weekend. The race recaps are meticulously detailed, and the debates between the three hosts are a delight to listen to.
Pinkham is first and foremost a famous figure in the motorsport world, but it’s important to see her at the table in this podcast as a female fan. F1 Nation is definitely worth adding to the summer break list (that is, if you haven’t already).
